Meet Seltek’s Director of IT Operations: Keith Messer

Seltek welcomes Keith Messer as the Director of IT Operations to our staff! He comes to us with many years of IT experience and will be a valuable asset to our company. Get to know Keith with the following Q&A.

Get to Know Keith:

Q1:  What do you work toward in your free time?

A1:  I enjoy spending time in my family, working in the yard, and boating on Smith Mountain Lake.  I try to do more boating and relaxing than working in the yard.

Q2: You’re a new addition to a crayon box.  What color would you be and why?

A2:  Red – it’s my favorite color, it’s bright and strong.

Q3: If you woke up and had 2,000 unread Helpdesk emails and could answer only 300 of them, how would you choose which ones to answer?

A3: I would scan through them to determine high priority ones based on impact to users and determine which needed to be handled.  I would also try to find someone that could assist in handing the additional ones.

Q4: What’s your favorite 90’s jam?

A4: I’ve always been a country music fan.  Garth Brooks, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Reba, Shania, and Alabama were always on my radio.

Q5: What is your past work experience in the IT world?

A4: I have been working in IT for 35 years.  I remember working on the original IBM PC and PC AT computers.  I have watched the technology change tremendously over that time and can only imagine where the next 35 years will take us.

Q6: What is your favorite food?

A6:  Lasagna – my mom would make it only once a year….usually for my birthday.  My wife has continued the tradition.  I don’t typically order it at a restaurant because they make it with ricotta cheese.  My mom always made it with cottage cheese which makes it a lot less dry.

Q7: Where is the most exotic place you have traveled to?

A7:  Russia – We spent 2 weeks in Russia adopting our son in 1999.  While the big cities like Moscow and St. Petersburg are similar to American cities, the rural areas can be vastly different.

Q8: What is your favorite movie and why?

A8: Top Gun – I have always had an interest in flying and the military (although I never served), and it had a great story line.  I can’t wait for the sequel to be released on May 27th.
